Once a tired neighbourhood, Altrincham has come a long way from its sleepy time-out at the turn of the millennium.
The revival of Altrincham Market felt like the lifting of a curse, as the suburban town was suddenly woken from its deep slumber and propelled into the vibrant, efflorescent food and drink destination it is reputed to be today.
Boasting such a blossoming and cultural mix of cafes, bars and restaurants - here’s the Watson St Dispatch on a 'Local’s Guide to Altrincham'.
WHERE TO EAT

Sugo (££) Intimate. Charming. Rustic. | Pasta
With a menu that takes derivatives from traditional Italian recipes, Sugo will certainly soothe those with a penchant for pasta.
Succumb to the sweet and hearty Mediterranean aromas of Southern Italy. Order a carafe of Puglian red wine (served in an endearing, chunky jug) and browse the menu, which offers a range of varying pasta styles and sauces, as well as a variety of vegan and gluten-free dishes.
What to order: Sugo Scoglio - a sumptuous plate of cavatelli pasta shells, tousled with king prawns, baby squid and mussels, and swimming in a rich pool of sweet datterini tomatoes with a warming kick of chilli and ginger.

Porta (££)
Relaxed. Authentic. Friendly | Tapas
Simple and refined, Porta is inspired by the tiniest independent tapas bars of Barcelona Madrid. Cosy and welcoming, rustic wooden tables and barstools create an environment that is at once laid-back and vibrant.
Unpretentious, with good music, great beer and even better wine, we implore you not to order the whole menu.
What do order: - Picos de Europa blue cheese with caramelised walnuts, sultanas and honey. - Croquetas del dia (we’ve ordered these a few times, and whatever the dia, they’re always sublime). - Albondigas de Cordero – lamb meatballs in a rich, tomato sauce. - Queen scallops with chilli, lemon & garlic butter, herb crumb.

Pix (£)
Simple. Light. Fresh | Pizza
A delightful addition to the Altrincham community, Pix is the perfect pick me up. Serving delicious, Neapolitan style pizza, the dough is first proved for 72 hours to develop flavour, before each pizza is hand-stretched and baked in a wood-fired oven.
The beauty of Pix? You can happily order your favourite pizza and devour it while enjoying your favourite beer across the road at Pi.
