CANVAS

Canvas arrived at Circle Square with an ambitious vision: to create a destination that brought together live music, hospitality, wellness and community... all under one roof. Watson St supported the launch from the earliest stages, helping introduce the concept to consumer audiences, business communities and the wider hospitality industry before continuing to support the venue throughout its first six months.

THE CHALLENGE

Canvas opened at Circle Square as an ambitious new concept for Manchester, combining live music, late-night hospitality, members’ programming and cultural events, within a single, multi-purpose destination.

The challenge was to introduce a completely new type of destination to the city, building awareness across multiple audiences while clearly communicating its identity as more than just a venue.

The focus was on creating a launch that would:

  • establish Canvas as a new cultural landmark within Manchester’s hospitality and music scene

  • introduce the concept to consumer, trade and industry audiences simultaneously

  • build early momentum across media, influencers and local creative communities

  • communicate the breadth of the offer, from music and dining through to membership and wellness

BRINGING THE LAUNCH TO LIFE

Watson St developed the launch messaging, positioning and communications strategy, shaping how Canvas was introduced to market across press, trade and consumer channels.

The campaign framed Canvas as a new kind of cultural ecosystem — a space where music, hospitality, membership and community intersect — and ensured this narrative was consistently communicated across all touchpoints.

The approach focused on:

  • defining Canvas as a cultural destination rather than a traditional venue launch

  • developing press narratives across music, hospitality, innovation and community impact

  • introducing founding members and early advocates to support credibility and word-of-mouth

  • building anticipation through coordinated consumer and trade communications

PRESS & VISIBILITY

A targeted PR strategy was delivered across consumer and trade media, positioning Canvas within Manchester’s evolving cultural and hospitality landscape. This included press outreach, storytelling angles and media coordination across launch phases.

Key outcomes:

  • 30M+ total audience reach across press and social coverage

  • 16 pieces of media coverage secured

  • 138K+ estimated coverage views

THE LAUNCH EVENT

Watson St supported the delivery of the official Canvas launch night at Circle Square, welcoming media, influencers, founding members and invited guests into the space for the first time.

The event was designed to reflect the breadth of Canvas as a concept by combining hospitality, culture and live programming into a single evening experience.

Support included:

  • guest list strategy and management

  • media, influencer and industry invite coordination

  • on-the-night hosting and Q&A facilitation with founders and creatives

  • content and photography coordination

  • launch narrative delivery across the evening programme

The launch event featured a hard-hat tour, long-table dining experience, live panel discussion (hosted by Rebekah, Watson St) and performances, followed by DJs and late-night programming. Over 88 guests attended the launch evening, including media, local creative figures and members of the Manchester cultural community.

INFLUENCER ENGAGEMENT

Ahead of and during the launch phase of the bar and restarant, Watson St coordinated influencer engagement to build early awareness and authentic social storytelling around Canvas. This activity focused on introducing the space through experience-led visits and content capture.

24 influencers hosted across preview activity. Content generated focused on:

  • venue interiors and atmosphere

  • food, drink and dining experience

  • live music and opening programming

  • membership and community positioning

CONTENT & SOCIAL MANAGEMENT

Following launch, Watson St supported the ongoing social media presence of Canvas, helping shape how the venue was represented across digital platforms during its early operational phase.

This included:

  • social content planning and scheduling

  • tone of voice development for captions and messaging

  • launch campaign storytelling across platforms

  • coordination of visual assets and photography selection

  • ongoing community engagement and content direction
